Kapil Sharma's Reel Wife Sumona Chakravarti Says His Show Was 'Scripted': 'It's All Acting...'
Sumona Chakravarti, known for playing Kapil Sharma's onscreen wife, won't join his new show, The Great Indian Kapil Show, and was reportedly upset about not being informed.
Sumona Chakravarti, who became a household name playing Kapil Sharma’s onscreen wife in his comedy shows, recently shared anecdotes about her time on The Kapil Sharma Show. While many comedians have spoken about the spontaneous nature of the show, Sumona admitted that for her, everything was scripted, and she approached it purely as an actor.
In a chat with Small Towns Big Stories on YouTube, Sumona revealed that comedy wasn’t her natural genre and that it took her a lot of effort to get comfortable with it. “I have my own personal sense of humor, but my personal sense of humour won’t suit this show, it won’t work here. So for me, it was genuinely pure acting. It took a lot of time to do it," she shared.

Talking about her preparation, she added, “Hume jab script milte the, I was one of those people, I used to sit with pen and paper, highlight, read, memorise word-to-word because punch lines hoti hai. And more than that, I used to also remember Kapil’s lines as timing is also important."
Sumona also mentioned that even when others improvised during the shoot, she always brought things back to the script. She recalled how Kapil Sharma admired her ability to not only memorise her own dialogues but also keep track of his, ensuring the show ran smoothly.
As for what’s next, Sumona said she’s keen to explore new roles in films and OTT projects. She has been keeping a low profile recently and was last seen on Khatron Ke Khiladi.
Interestingly, this comes at a time when Kapil Sharma has announced the third season of the Great Indian Kapil Show. However, just like the previous two seasons of the Netflix show, Sumona will not be a part of it. In 2024, while Sumona was in Romania for Khatron Ke Khiladi 14, a report did the rounds claiming she did not leave The Kapil Sharma Show by choice but was rather not informed about the comedian’s new show, The Great Indian Kapil Show. It was also claimed that Sumona was disheartened and “upset" with Kapil.
